Paying in pounds
Use GBP when budgeting for the UK. Cards and digital wallets are widely used, but acceptance varies by business. Check before ordering rather than assuming that every small shop accepts your card.

ATMs are often called cash points. Some charge an operator fee; your card issuer may have its own charges. Read the screen and your card terms before withdrawing, and compare the total cost rather than the exchange rate alone.

London buses do not accept cash. Check your contactless or Oyster option before boarding. For journeys beyond London, look up the relevant operator instead of applying London’s payment rules to the whole country.

Put prepaid rail tickets and hotel bookings in a separate list. Budget only unpaid items in the calculator below. If a bill includes a service charge, read it before adding anything extra; this prevents counting the same expense twice.
