Check that the price is in Canadian dollars
Use CAD for your Canadian spending plan. A dollar sign alone does not distinguish Canadian dollars from US or Australian dollars. Check the currency on the booking page and receipt before converting. The Bank of Canada’s banknote guide is the reference for current designs and security features; compare unfamiliar notes with that guide rather than using colour alone.
Bank of Canada · banknotes →Allow for the taxes on your actual purchase
The Canada Revenue Agency explains that the GST/HST rate depends on the place of supply, with rates for taxable purchases varying by province or territory; basic groceries are an example of zero-rated supplies. Do not apply one blanket percentage to every item in every stop. Check whether the displayed or quoted price includes applicable taxes, and use the final amount in your food, accommodation and activity estimates.
Canada Revenue Agency · GST/HST rates →Use local guidance without assuming universal acceptance
Destination Vancouver’s visitor guide describes card payments, ATMs and tipping in the city. Use it as local context, not proof that every business on a Canadian itinerary accepts your particular card. Confirm payment methods with accommodation and transport providers. When leaving a tip, check the bill for an existing service charge and include the amount you choose in the budget only once.
Destination Vancouver · visitor guide (Vancouver context) →Separate bank fees from operator fees
The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada distinguishes charges from your own institution, network access and the ATM operator. Before withdrawing, check the on-screen charge and your card tariff. Our withdrawal comparison uses the same total cash amount in each scenario, so you can see the effect of repeating fixed fees. Fee-free allowances, minimum fees and refunds need to be checked separately.
Financial Consumer Agency of Canada · ATM fees →Plan a multi-stop Canadian trip
Give each stop its own daily group costs and one-off spending. Add all bookings to their cost categories, then mark the part already paid. Choose an optional reserve for unpaid costs. Enter a cash amount in CAD if you have decided how to pay; leaving the field blank keeps the cash/card split undecided. Save the plan on your device and export a copy if you want to move it to another browser.
At the payment screen
If offered conversion into your home currency, compare its rate and markup with your card terms. Choosing local currency avoids that particular conversion service.

Practical questions
Can I budget Canadian purchases as if CAD and USD were equal?
No. Select the correct currency and convert at the displayed reference rate. An offer to accept another currency needs its own rate and fee comparison.
Does the planner add Canadian taxes automatically?
No. Enter your own costs including the applicable taxes and any tips you intend to leave. The tool does not infer tax treatment from the destination.
Can the same trip include Canada and the USA?
Yes. Add separate stops in CAD and USD and choose one home currency for the combined estimate.
