What is a spread?
Every currency trades at two prices: a bid (what buyers pay) and an ask (what sellers want). The gap between them is the spread — the market's own built-in cost. The mid-market rate you see everywhere is just the midpoint. On liquid pairs the spread is a few hundredths of a percent; the 2–10% you feel at a bank or kiosk is markup added on top.
